Missions

The Handymen Ministry at Warlicks Baptist Church was originally organized by the late Leonard Ledford, who was active with Habitat for Humanity and various Baptist mission projects, along with the late John Deal.  Today, the ministry continues under the leadership of Jim Adams and partners with Foothills Service Project, a Burke County non-profit.  The mission of the Handymen Ministry is to serve God by building and repairing decks and ramps, providing mobility and freedom to those who might otherwise be confined to their homes.  This group of dedicated men and women are always open to new members who feel called to serve others through practical acts of ministry.

Our School Backpack Program began in 2013 when a group of individuals recognized the need for children in our area—and across the nation—who do not have consistent access to food on weekends and holidays. This ministry provides nutritious, non-perishable, easy-to-prepare meals to ensure children are fed even when school meals aren’t available. The program is fully supported by the generous donations of church members and friends. 

Since 1993, Samaritans Purse has collected more than 209 million shoe boxes and sent them to more than 170 countries. These boxes have some of the most basic needs that we may take for granted along with the Gospel of Christ.

The Appalachian Backpacks Mission serves children in the impoverished coal-mining regions of North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Each Christmas, the ministry provides backpacks filled with canned food, candy, toys, clothing, and an age-appropriate Bible, meeting both the physical and spiritual needs of these children. This year, their goal is to distribute 24,000 backpacks to children in need. 

The Senior Adult Ministry at Warlicks Baptist Church seeks to glorify God by identifying, inviting, and involving our senior adults. We encourage active participation in fellowship and outreach, using our wisdom, gifts, and talents to serve others.  The committee meets every 2nd Thursday of the month, and monthly fellowship is held on every 3rd Monday, unless otherwise notified.
